About canines in motion
Because work shouldn’t hurt. And that includes sport.
Because our dogs deserve our best thinking.
Meet Kim Cullen
I’m Kim Cullen: a kinesiologist, researcher, and lifelong competitor in dog sport. With a PhD in sport science and over 30 years in the sport, I’ve spent my life exploring how we move, how we learn, and how we build better partnerships with our dogs.
Canines in Motion is where those worlds come together. My mission is to translate research into real-life tools handlers, trainers, judges, and designers can use—whether you’re just starting out or coaching at the elite level.
I’m here to make the science accessible, the conversation inclusive, and the outcomes better—for dogs and humans alike.

The vision that moves us
This isn’t a training method. It’s a movement toward smarter, safer performance, founded in evidence, built with experience, and centred on dogs.

Translate Research
Bridging the gap between sport science and real-world training.
I share practical insights from research
— my own and others' —
to support informed decisions in the field.

Celebrate experience
Good science respects lived expertise.
I draw from decades of hands-on training, competing, and coaching to connect evidence with the lessons dogs and handlers teach us every day.

centre the dog
Performance only matters if it also protects the dog.
Every idea shared here is guided by one principle: the physical, emotional, and behavioural well-being of our canine teammates comes first.
How we define evidence
Real evidence comes from many places. This is how we put it to work.
At Canines in Motion, we believe evidence includes more than just research.
It’s what we study, what we practice, and what our dogs tell us every day.
When all three work together, we train smarter and keep dogs safer.

Meet our dogs
The dogs who shaped our journey.

Bailey (1996 - 2011)
My first partner in dog sport. Confident and driven she laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Maddie (2001 - 2010)
Patient and forgiving she pushed me to become a more thoughtful, intentional handler.

Recess (2004 - 2020)
The teacher. Fierce, and unforgettable. My first international-level partner who taught me the power of connection over control.

Gossip (2007 - 2020)
The technician. Brilliant and methodical. She sharpened my understanding of timing, handling, and the small details that matter.

Savvy (2011 - )
The heart. Wild and joyful, she reminded me that play is the point, and that even chaos can be beautiful when channelled with care.

Beacon (2021 - )
The compass. My current teammate and steady light through hard seasons. Reliable, thoughtful, and the embodiment of trust.

Vela (2025 - )
The spark. New to the team, but already luminous. She carries a quiet confidence, a curious mind, and a purpose beyond her years.
